With TCS Global, the cost to ship packages from the US to Vietnam is based mainly on the package weight in pounds and the destination province. You can estimate it for free on our website. On top of that, there is optional cargo insurance at 5% of the declared value, and some goods carry surcharges.
We don't list rates here because they can change. Instead, this guide explains each part of the cost, how to use the estimator, and practical ways to spend less. If you're new to this, start with our complete guide to shipping from the US to Vietnam.
What makes up US-to-Vietnam shipping costs
| Component | How it works | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Shipping fee | Weight (lb) × the per-lb rate for the destination area | Every package |
| Cargo insurance | 5% of declared value | Optional |
| Item-type surcharges | Listed by TCS in your quote | Some goods, e.g. electronics or high-value items |
| Special customs fees, oversized items | Not included in the online estimate | E.g. perfume, cosmetics; oversized boxes |
Weight in pounds
US shipping uses pounds; 1 kg is roughly 2.2 lb. To weigh a box at home, step on a bathroom scale holding it, then subtract your own weight. That's close enough for an estimate; the final cost is based on the actual package. When you run the estimator you'll also see a note about the minimum billable weight per package, so very light boxes are charged at that minimum. Combining small items into one box usually makes more sense than sending several tiny ones.
Destination province
The per-lb rate depends on where the box is going in Vietnam, so the same box can cost a different amount to Ho Chi Minh City than to another province. Always pick the recipient's actual province.
Optional 5% insurance
Insurance is not required. If you want it, declare the value and pay 5% of it. For example, a declared value of $200 means a $10 insurance fee. Declare the true value and ask us about coverage before you decide.
Surcharges
The online estimate excludes special customs surcharges (such as perfume and cosmetics) and oversized items. Electronics or high-value goods may also carry a surcharge. TCS lists these in your quote so there are no surprises.
How to use the online estimator
The free estimator is on our ship-to-Vietnam page and on the homepage:
- Choose Vietnam as the destination region.
- Select the recipient's province.
- Enter the estimated weight in lbs (decimals like 12.5 are fine).
- Optionally enter a declared value in USD for insurance.
- Click "Estimate Shipping Cost".
You'll see the shipping fee with the per-lb rate for that area, the insurance fee if you entered a value, and an estimated total. Treat it as a guide; the final amount follows the actual package and TCS's quote, including any surcharges.
Before you ship: weigh it, estimate it, ask about anything unusual (perfume, cosmetics, electronics or high-value items).
Ways to lower your shipping cost
Consolidate
One sturdy, well-filled box beats several light ones that each hit the minimum. Just don't overload a weak carton; for a lot of items, use a few strong boxes.
Cut extra packaging, keep product labels
Outer shipping cartons from online orders, rigid plastic shells and empty gift boxes all add weight and bulk. Remove them, but keep the original bottles and boxes with their labels so your family can read directions and expiry dates. A compact box also avoids oversized charges.
Choose powder over liquid when it makes sense
Because you pay by weight, ready-to-drink beverages cost more to ship than powders, since most of their weight is water. Take Ensure:
| Liquid | Powder | |
|---|---|---|
| Product | Ensure Original shakes, 30 × 8 fl oz | Ensure Original powder, 6 × 397 g |
| Use | Ready to drink | Mix with water |
| Per label | 9g protein, 220 calories per bottle | 9g protein, 250 calories per serving |
| Shipping | Heavier; many bottles to cushion | Compact, lighter, no leak worries |
| Best for | Elders who can't easily mix drinks | Families used to mixing, cost-conscious |
Neither is right for everyone; if your parents won't mix powder, the shakes are worth the extra weight. For special diets, check with a doctor first. More on choosing in US Ensure: liquid vs powder.
Ask before packing surcharge-prone items
Perfume, cosmetics, electronics and high-value goods may cost extra, and batteries, sprays or large amounts of liquid may be refused. See what you can ship to Vietnam.
