Most popular US joint supplements fall into three groups: glucosamine and chondroitin formulas (Kirkland, Schiff Move Free Advanced, Osteo Bi-Flex Triple Strength), glucosamine with MSM, and "triple action" formulas built on type II collagen, hyaluronic acid and boron (Move Free Ultra, Kirkland Triple Action). To choose, compare the ingredients and serving size on the label, decide between tablets and liquid, and ask a doctor first. Below we compare seven products from the TCS Global store and keep topical patches and creams in a separate section, because they are a different kind of product.
Common ingredients in joint supplements
These short notes are based only on the manufacturers' descriptions, not on medical evaluation.
Glucosamine and chondroitin
The classic pairing. Kirkland lists glucosamine HCl 1500 mg and chondroitin sulfate 1200 mg and describes them as helping lubricate and cushion joints and protect cartilage. Move Free Advanced and Osteo Bi-Flex Triple Strength use the same base and add their own ingredients. "HCl" or "sulfate" after the name is the salt form, so two bottles that both say "glucosamine" are not necessarily identical.
MSM
MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) appears in Kirkland Glucosamine with MSM and in Nature's Way liquid. Kirkland describes it as a source of sulfur, a component of collagen and cartilage.
Type II collagen, hyaluronic acid and boron
The "triple action" trio. Kirkland Triple Action uses UC-II (undenatured type II collagen), boron and hyaluronic acid; Move Free Ultra Triple Action lists type II collagen, hyaluronic acid and boron. This is not the same thing as the collagen peptide powders people stir into drinks.

Watch the word "Triple": Move Free Ultra Triple Action and Kirkland Triple Action are collagen-based, while Osteo Bi-Flex Triple Strength is a glucosamine and chondroitin formula with Boswellia. If a relative asks you to buy "the triple one", get a photo of the label.
Tablets or liquid?
Most options are tablets. For people who dislike swallowing several pills, Kirkland Triple Action is described as one small tablet a day, and Nature's Way liquid is measured by the tablespoon. The trade-off is shipping: a 1-liter bottle weighs far more than a bottle of tablets, and shipping is priced by weight. Liquids also need leak-proof packing: tape and wrap the cap, bag the bottle, keep it upright and pad it well. Ask TCS before sending several bottles.
How to choose
- Ask a doctor which ingredient group fits, if any, rather than buying on marketing claims.
- Compare per serving: label amounts usually refer to a serving that may be more than one tablet.
- Check allergen warnings: glucosamine in many products comes from shellfish, so people with shellfish allergies should read the label and ask their doctor.
- Avoid stacking: many formulas share glucosamine and chondroitin. If your parents also take a multivitamin for people over 50 or calcium and vitamin D3, show the doctor every bottle. Nature's Way liquid, for instance, also contains vitamin D3.
- Check medications first: anyone on long-term medication should ask a doctor or pharmacist before adding a supplement.
Quick guide: glucosamine and chondroitin = Kirkland, Move Free Advanced, Osteo Bi-Flex. Glucosamine and MSM = Kirkland MSM. Type II collagen, hyaluronic acid, boron = Move Free Ultra, Kirkland Triple Action. Multi-ingredient liquid = Nature's Way. Patches and creams = external use only, not supplements.
Topical patches and creams: external use, not supplements
- Salonpas Pain Relieving Patch (140 patches): camphor, menthol and methyl salicylate; labeled to temporarily relieve minor muscle and joint aches, up to 8 hours per patch.
- Ultra Strength BENGAY cream: non-greasy, with camphor, menthol and methyl salicylate; two 4 oz tubes.
- Eagle Brand Medicated Plaster Extra Strength (5 patches): labeled for muscle and joint pain associated with strains, sprains, backache and bruises.
Use them on the skin only, follow the directions and warnings on the box, and keep them away from eyes, open wounds and irritated skin. People with health conditions, pregnant women and children should ask a pharmacist first. For more on these classic gifts, see Eagle Brand oil and Salonpas patches.
Shipping joint products to Vietnam
Tablets are the economical choice; liquids add weight. Weigh the full box and get a free estimate on the Ship to Vietnam page. Topical pain relievers are over-the-counter medicines, so ask TCS before sending large quantities. Keep original boxes and labels. TCS flies Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, with estimated delivery of 5–10 days to Ho Chi Minh City and 10–14 days to other provinces. Many of these products are Costco's Kirkland Signature brand; if something is not in the TCS store, our US proxy shopping service can buy it for you. Our US-to-Vietnam shipping guide covers the full process.

Frequently asked questions
Should I choose glucosamine or type II collagen?
There is no universal answer. They are different ingredient groups, and the choice should come from a doctor who knows the person's health.
How is Move Free Advanced different from Move Free Ultra?
Per the descriptions, Advanced combines glucosamine, chondroitin, hyaluronic acid and Uniflex in 200 tablets; Ultra Triple Action is based on type II collagen, hyaluronic acid and boron in 75 tablets.
Can I ship the Nature's Way liquid to Vietnam?
Contact TCS before shipping liquids. Send a modest quantity, seal the cap, keep the bottle upright and remember it adds roughly a liter's worth of weight.
